This is an area where Hatha Yoga/physical manipulations to create an expanded physical, mental, and emotional awareness in order to focus them all to work together. United, Yoked. We may well heal any one of these categories, yet still be held back by one or the others.
Postures have the capability to reveal previously incomplete awareness of a traumatic event as the article shares. Some may be as deep and to go far back as a baby where there was no intellectual mental functioning tied to experiences, ideas, thoughts to tie them too. Others could be as youngsters, exposed to things we often outlaw to protect the young as Society has recognized as a youth there has not yet developed the larger awareness as too the implications could be. Also, a traumatic injury suffered at the same time may hold the emotions, the mental angst as and around when the physical injury happened.
The Physical Hatha Yoga can function just as another form of exercise, but such releases can still occur and then this is where quiet Meditation/Prayer can allow us to process those things once locked, now free, to now be processed, understood, come to healthier newer outcomes.
Then we are engaged as a fuller, more integrated - total being. Not just coping with pain, emotional stress, whatnot, but addressing what may have been a long hidden root cause of disruption encouraging Dis-Ease. Not just physical or mental work, but addressing all three systems - physical, mental and emotional.
The holistic view of depression and anxiety intertwines body and mind. Low-grade chronic inflammation is characterized by elevated levels of inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), without presenting obvious symptoms in its initial stages.
Social factors and the social determinants of health play a crucial role in activating this state, acting as a bridge between the social environment and physical illnesses. It is considered a "disease of civilization" linked to structural inequalities such as socioeconomic disadvantage and low educational attainment. Sustained stress, derived from social conditions, activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to glucocorticoid resistance and, consequently, increased inflammation. Contributing factors include fear of job loss, insufficient income, and job insecurity, which are significant triggers. A lack of social support networks and poor community cohesion are also linked to higher levels of pro-inflammatory markers. Racism, sexism, and discrimination based on religion or class have also been associated with increased expression of inflammatory cytokines, as well as exposure to neighborhood violence or early childhood trauma (ACEs), which alters the immune response, increasing NF-κB signaling, a pro-inflammatory pathway.
