Research reveals how low-dose lithium protects against Alzheimer's by preserving memory, reducing brain inflammation, and slowing cognitive decline naturally.
Many different foods can provide a good amount of lithium.
It is estimated that grains and vegetables can cover between 66% and over 90% of daily lithium intake, while the remainder comes from animal-based foods and drinking water.
Interesting report. Generally speaking, drier regions in the United States tend to have higher lithium levels compared to wetter areas. In Texas, the water is notorious for its high lithium content. Lower levels of lithium in tap water were associated with higher rates of death from any cause, according to data collected from 234 Texas counties and more than 6,100 water samples.
Lithium appeared to prevent cognitive decline, with significant differences beginning three months after the start of treatment and increasing progressively, compared to controls.

This means that one cup of cereal will provide you with 0.4 mg of lithium, while half a cup of nuts or 200 g of fish will have about 0.6 mg of lithium.
Certain types of tea can also be a good source of lithium. A quarter liter of black tea provides approximately 0.58 to 1.35 micrograms/g of lithium, while the same volume of red tea contains 0.72 to 1.70 micrograms/g.
SUPPLEMENTS
Several supplements contain low doses of lithium. One of the most popular is lithium orotate. Lithium aspartate and lithium citrate supplements are also available.
Lithium supplements are not FDA-approved.
Lithium orotate contains approximately 4 mg of actual or elemental lithium per 100 mg dose. This contrasts with lithium carbonate, which contains approximately 19 mg of lithium per 100 mg dose.
However, other studies have refuted these results. Furthermore, research on lithium orotate has stalled in the last two decades due to safety concerns. Even less research has been done on the other available lithium supplements. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34690/

Very interesting. However, no mention as to what dose equates to “ low dose” lithium.

Some scientists have suggested provisional recommended intakes of 1000 μg/day or 1 mg/day for a 70 kg adult (14.3 μg/kg of body weight).

Some examples of foods rich in lithium include :
• Nuts (8.8 micrograms/g)
• Cereals (4.4 micrograms/g)
• Fish (3.1 micrograms/g)
• Vegetables (2.3 micrograms/g)
• Dairy products (0.5 micrograms/g)

Note the following dosage differences:
Lithium carbonate is typically prescribed at doses of 600 to 1800 mg/day. This would provide between 114 and 340 mg of elemental lithium.
Lithium orotate generally contains around 5 mg of elemental lithium per dose.
This difference in dosage means that lithium supplements are very unlikely to cause the toxicities associated with prescription lithium.
Are there any advantages to using lithium orotate?
A couple of older studies claim that lithium orotate may penetrate the blood-brain barrier better, allowing it to reach higher levels in the brain.
