Chronic stress may induce adrenaline to activate lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) to produce lactic acid. Systemic lactic acidosis is associated with an extremely poor survival prognosis in cancer. Chronic stress and stress hormones can upregulate the expression of stress-related proinflammatory genes in circulating white blood cells, which increases the release of proinflammatory cells and the production of proinflammatory cytokines, and may activate the aging inflammatory response without the trigger of exogenous inflammation, leading to the promotion of tumorigenesis and metastasis. Stress hormones promote the emergence and development of cancers through several mechanisms, such as inducing DNA damage, increasing p53 degradation, and regulating the tumor microenvironment. Chronic stress can also activate the inflammatory response and the interaction between inflammatory cells and cancer cells to form the tumor microenvironment, thereby promoting all stages of tumorigenesis. Animal and human studies have reported that cortisol levels in the system are increased by acid-base disturbance through transiently induced metabolic acidosis. Acidosis mediates cortisol activity through the pituitary-adrenal cortex-renal glutaminase axis. Many studies suggest that Western diet-induced acidosis may play a role in modulating systemic cortisol levels, and that neutralizing acid load through alkalization can reduce cortisol levels. Excessive or chronic cortisol production acquired from a "Western" dietary lifestyle could play a role in increasing the tryptophan metabolism pathway and driving downstream molecular events that promote carcinogenesis. Upregulated cortisol bioactivity driven by diet-induced acidosis may be a factor in metabolic syndrome by promoting insulin resistance. Chronic hyperglucocorticoidism increases visceral obesity while reducing insulin sensitivity, primarily in visceral adipocytes, which appear to be more responsive to cortisol than subcutaneous adipocytes due to higher levels of glucocorticoid receptor expression. Visceral adipocytes also display increased activity that converts cortisone into bioactive cortisol. Glucocorticoids stimulate visceral adipocytes to increase lipoprotein lipase activity while suppressing insulin-mediated glucose uptake. Acute induction of systemic acidosis appears to reduce serum IGF-1 levels. Short-term induction of metabolic acidosis. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7466429/ (2020).-------
I have taken both an Adrenal production test and am going to take a Cortisol levels test in a few days. As you know, at least for females, an increase in stress causes an increase in the production of estrogen, which in turn increases the amounts of adipose (or brown fat) which surrounds our organs and cannot be liposuctioned out, as much as we wish this possible. This rise of estrogen increases (for women) a higher possibility of cancer, as cancer cells love to feed off estrogen. There are tests one can take for adrenal gland shut-down and for Cortisol production (plus its highs and lows throughout a 24-hr. period). If one has been under stress (either physically, emotionally, psychologically or by outside sources), one’s adrenal glands will eventually tap out. This was the case with me as I was overtraining, working with the military and conducting PT sessions with large commands. My body and mental state thrived on this training and chance to make a difference in the health of AD USN troops as well as a few of their select teams. I am an ENTJ via the Myers-Briggs test that I took at The Citadel when I was working on my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. Female ENTJ’s account for only 5% of MB test-takers. Our motto is supposedly “Fire-Ready-Aim” and as a female ENTJ, we make quick but accurate decisions. We think on our feet, can adapt to any condition and tend to drive other people nuts 😬😀🙂. We don’t mean to! There are bioimpedic scales made by Tanita which measure with a deviation of +/- 2% statistically all of the biometrics of a person, after entering in (and being honest about it) one’s exercise habits vs. a sedentary person. I have recommended this scale (or others like it) to many people. I used it with the USN for years until they finally got the funding and approval for a large gym-grade biometric scale and relying less on the unreliable 5-site tape measuring test. I had military troops as private clients as well, training them to pass (or surpass) their PRT tests so that they could be fully relieved and prepared for these tests. I am only 5 ft 2 in but am solid muscle (slow-twitch). I am proud to say that after training AD troops from Sicily to Hawaii (Oahu) to the East Coast, I was able to reduce the attrition rate of troops, decrease their overall running time by 2.4 minutes overall and increased their strength and VO2 Max capabilities in order to prepare them for any overseas activity. I was able to change many troops’ eating habits, often took private clients to the local commissary for a 2-week grocery prep meal planning assignment and I worked out WITH them both when they were with their commands and separately during our training sessions. I created a fitness protocol during my time in Hawaii, filmed an AFN commercial and was on excellent terms with all of the CO’s, XO’s and their staff as I was monitored for 1.5 years by one particular group who observed my integration of speed, strength, high vs low intensity training and my personal interjection of introducing MMA into their workout schedules. I am a CrossFit Instructor and a CrossFit Nutrition Instructor (Certified). I integrated CF WOD’s into my training program with all of the commands I taught, giving them the ability to sustain and increase their anaerobic capacity as this system is certainly used during emergency events (carrying weight, lifting weight, using one’s own body weight to overcome obstacles) as well as showing the commands that literally ANYTHING could be used in ANY situation to ensure a strenuous and productive workout. I am honored and pleased to have been able to train and teach not only AD USN troops but other branches of the military as well. Adaptation and creative thinking is key, and I used both of these daily as I literally was thinking on my feet and adapting to any weather conditions. I still maintain connections to my military friends and clients to this day. Most of all, the Fleet Admiral, his CO and the CO’s of all of the commands were happy to produce stellar improvements statistically amongst their commands and their peers. I was not well-liked by a few male servicemembers who called me various names which I ignored as I knew, in the end, they would thank me for throwing them into the fire of my workouts 🫡
Great post! NTJ styles on the MB tend to make fantastic directors, CEOs and high ranking leaders. Your accomplishments are definitely in alignment with your style. Regarding estrogen, I didn't know that high stress levels creates estrogen in the body. I have done blood, urine (DUTCH), hair, and saliva testing and all point to low estrogen levels including a prolactin test...but symptoms indicate estrogen is still present. My stress levels are super high and I am wondering if this is the culprit. Thanks again for your post and I will continue to do more digging.
Hard to find a balance between taking in enough media whether Legacy or Social to have some sense of what may be going on, easy to take in too much. So much is like a bunch of flash cards of one ugly thing after another. Scenes coming in from everywhere. This makes it easy for the mind to absorb and get kicked into the should I fight, freeze or flee mechanisms. We don't even have to take it all in directly. Here, somehow without the TV's, Smart Phones the Amish are fully aware about what is going on with the "Crazy English." Even entertainment can add to become unaware of unconscious stress. If at all possible it is hard to beat a hike in wilderness, woods or even a public park if that is all that is available. Having been in some very large cities there still can be pockets of nature to nurture.
Looks like I have found the perfect solution, living in the country, close to nature with 3 cats! Plus prayer! Every time I see any doctor, the first question asked is are you depressed. After all, I am 84, living alone with no known living relatives, just close friends. NO, I have peace with God, know where I am going and in the meantime, Live in harmony with nature, even have a 4th cat, a cougar who trusts me and visits when in the area for naps on my deck and a belly rub. It might not be if I lived in a city like New York, LA, little contact with nature, lots of stress. We need to seek out nature, no TV, games, all artificial things to make us happy, happiness is within us, not things bought! Stop and smell the roses, listen to the birds singing, enjoy the breeze, sunshine, allow them to "slow us down". Nature does not cost a fortune, requires no prescription!
Unfortunately, progesterone doesn't work to calm everyone - it depends on your stage 2 liver detox pathways - 2OH, 4OH and 16OH - my body favors 16OH and to a lesser extent 4OH so progesterone doesn't create calm for me. You can find this out for your own body by taking the DUTCH test.

Why is your library still referred to as “censored”? Aren’t we past all of that?
Not in the political environment that exists today. Doctor Mercola is a prime target!
