There is also a pollution of financial debt, control exerted by Central Banks, along with Big Oil, Chem, Media, as they have taken over control to push a toxic Ag Chemical Model of Production. The problems for most of history has not been the local, traditional farmers whose efforts in general do not produce waste. Here, decades ago the garden spot was just dirt. Couldn't grow radishes, onions, much of anything. Over the years starting with the Rodale's Organic Gardening, then more recently Eden Garden experiments and now with little to no till gardening with Eden Gardening methods to use in the walkway. The thought is the no till feeds the soil from the bottom up like the prairies, and Eden feeds the soil from the top down, like a forest. (Also, developing raised beds, and have used wide row gardening for years. this is too avoid as much tilling as possible.)
After just a few years of no, little till cover crops used to cover the good earth, this year, unlike years past when ten or more days of no rain would leave the soil dry as talcum powder for all of ten twelve inches. Now, after the no, little till the soil is only dry for the first inch or two. Under it all moist. This just keeps getting better. For those who may be interested, next year half the garden will be a focus on the cover crops. Where last years garden was, got a winter cover crop when the growing season was done. The following spring, once the winter crop is knocked down, the top lightly stirred up and at least one Buckwheat Crop will be planted, likely followed by a second Buckwheat planting. This is fast pumping up the soil with the roots, while the top attracts mass bee activity. Then when the end of the growing season draws near, a winter cover crop is planted. Come spring the cover crop will be knocked down and raked into the walkways to become mulch in the walkways to also feed the soil, keep the weeds down. Where the cover crop was pulled back will be where crops will be planted.
This has been so encouraging as the soil keeps filling up with more soil life. The gardens production and quality are so much better. Yes, Ag Chems produce products big, pretty in appearance, but it is just empty toxic chemical carbohydrate calories void of nutrition. Like me, Steve has the knowledge of his parents, grandparents to build on and he listened to them! Farmers in my area are getting sick from the very chemicals used to fertilize their fields, kill insects and weeds. I have found that just letting nature do it's job works much better! Insect friends and birds can do it for us. Coyote, wolf keep the deer population in health, out of crops! Healthy soil does the rest! Hands off seems to be the best rule to follow, let nature do its thing! It keeps the soil moist, soft enough for healthy roots to grow and provides the nutrients needed for growth. Yes, bugs, deer eat some of the crop and you loose some $$ value but you do not need to spend a fortune on fertilizer, pesticides/herbicides, gas for large tractors, medical care for self and family members when we get sick from those very things promoted to give us more $$ for crops! I was diagnosed with lymphoma and I am not a farmer, just live near a field sprayed with RoundUp, the drift from the fields got me! Since 2000 I have been preaching to anyone who would listen to me on the evils of modern agriculture! But, I am only one voice, a crackpot fringe fanatic in their eyes!
