Bed bugs are tiny insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals.1 They tend to be active at night, and they're adept at hiding in dark, soft places and crevices. This makes the mattress an ideal spot for them to settle, hence the name “bed bug.”

They're hard to spot with the naked eye because they're so tiny (about the size of a grain of rice), but if you've got them wandering around your house and munching on you and your family members, you'll be sure to know it. Their bites, although harmless, are itchy and uncomfortable

Mix a small spoonful of bicarbonate in a container with vinegar. Spray the mixture with an atomizer in places where bed bugs may be. Repeat several times a day, as the vinegar evaporates quickly. The mixture is harmful to these insects.

Peppermint oil also has applications for these circumstances. It acts as a homemade repellent for small insects, since its smell is very annoying to them. You can sprinkle a few drops on the mattress and you will see the results soon.

As with mint, cloves are a spice with a strong aroma that repels a multitude of insects. In these cases it can also be used, spraying an infusion made with it or putting some nails for a few days directly on the mattress. More in the link.
