Discover how DMSO treats macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, cataracts, and even reverses blindness in cases doctors deemed impossible to cure.
Great information. I've bought a book on DMSO and I'm reviewing the full article in A Midwestern Doctor on eye health, including the cited references.
Dr. Mercola has reported on plants and eye health. Considering the increasing prevalence of eye diseases and the demand for effective, natural, and safe treatments, plant extracts represent a promising solution that can be used for both prevention and treatment of eye conditions.
In this review, natural plant extracts present an intriguing alternative or complement to conventional treatments, as they have the ability to act both prophylactically and therapeutically, thus promoting eye health. Lutein and zeaxanthin, compounds present in leafy vegetables and fruits, accumulate in the retina and filter harmful blue light, thereby reducing the risk of macular degeneration. Anthocyanins, found in blueberries and aronia berries, have been shown to improve the elasticity of blood vessels in the eye, which may contribute to the management of diabetic retinopathy and night vision impairment. Polyphenols, present in green tea and red wine, act as potent antioxidants, protecting retinal cells from degeneration and free radical damage.
In addition to their role in eye health, natural substances have been shown to support nervous system function, a crucial aspect in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as glaucoma and optic neuropathy. Saffron, a spice derived from saffron, has demonstrated neuroprotective properties and may contribute to the treatment of macular degeneration by improving the retina's sensitivity to light stimuli. Amla, a rich source of vitamin C, has been shown to strengthen blood vessels in the eye and reduce the risk of retinal hemorrhages. Nigella seed oil has also shown protective effects against optic nerve damage related to oxidative stress.
This review analyzes saffron, tea tree oil, turmeric, ginger, Ginkgo biloba, quercetin, aloe vera, carrot, and many others.
Table 1 summarizes natural plant-derived compounds with potential benefits for eye health.

Seventeen preclinical studies found that curcumin could potentially prevent and treat cataracts. Curcumin improved antioxidant defenses and decreased oxidative stress. Optimizing the oral absorption of curcumin will be critical for its therapeutic effect. Some previous research has revealed that curcumin is a very promising natural polypharmaceutical agent. It influences various factors, including antioxidants, pro-inflammatory cytokines, chromosome-regulating enzymes, apoptosis-related proteins, cell cycle regulators, growth factors, and components of cell signaling, among others.
This review aims to provide an overview of the potential therapeutic effects of green tea (GT) on eye diseases (Fig. 1). This review will summarize current knowledge on the bioactive compounds of guaiac tree (GT), the preclinical and clinical evidence of its therapeutic potential, and the mechanisms of action involved. It will provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits of GT in the treatment of eye diseases and contribute to the development of new treatment options.
GT and its components have demonstrated promising therapeutic effects in various eye diseases. The plant's bioactive components, such as catechins, flavonoids, and alkaloids, have shown potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-VEGF activities. Furthermore, GT compounds have been shown to improve ocular surface diseases, such as dry eye, allergies, and infections, as well as diseases of the retina and optic nerve. GT has also shown aldose reductase inhibitory activity, which could be beneficial in the treatment of cataracts. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2405844024048606 (2025).--
The results of this study suggest that carvacrol administration, due to its potent antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties, could attenuate selenite-induced cataractogenesis through multiple mechanisms involved in cataract development. Thymol and carvacrol are phenolic compounds present in the essential oils of medicinal plants, such as thyme, savory, and oregano.
Just a personal note; While using DMSO in a 70% DMSO 30% distilled water gel for old traumatic work injuries it seemed to also move throughout the body wherever it helps. Early on because of COPD, Chronic Bronchitis, Chronic Asthma, Environmental Scarring a med was prescribed while helping to manage symptoms, it also carried side effects causing Sinus Infections. As they are trained the docs prescribed antibiotics.
When the Sinuses cleared up though, then there would be an a lung infection and more antibiotics, then ear infection, more antibiotics, that followed by back to square one - Sinus infection. All of it aggravating the sight of the right eye. (This repeated cycle also seemed to cause a Wisdom Tooth to become infected.) Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
After ditching the med for a newer kind of treatment, and also using herbals, nasal washes to break the cycle...damage already seemed to have been done to the right eye function by the former med. While the eyes already having slight stigmatism issues before all this. As shared while using the DMSO on other old injuries and having improvements there, it became obvious vision improvements were being presented.
Already using the DMSO on the neck I also used it to improve the area where the Wisdom Tooth has been lost, so starting using it on the jaw line, lymph node area, and temples. This has made it so currently some days needing to remove reading glasses to read the computer screen, can see the numbers on the clocks in both eyes, not just the Left, blurriness has dropped significantly. I then tried using it on the lower eyelids, but found for me it seemed to work best by concentrating on the jawline, lymph nodes and temples. Progress continues to be made as night vision is improving too. (It might also help if those Prison Spot Lights were no longer used on vehicles, especially trucks or SUV's.)
Very happy so far as to how DMSO has been doing a lot of heavy lifting for the other helpful Alternative healers being used.
Agree on DMSO, started using it for my back, 3 fractured vertabrae in lumbar region from a fall. All of a sudden other aches, problems began to get better. Like you, now when a problem starts up, I grab my DMSO ! After a year, I am srill on my first $29.00 jar from Tractor Supply so it is not only effective but inexpensive! And so far, no side effects to cause heart attacks, cancer and other fatal diseases! Can't get any better than that!
I’ve had mixed success with DMSO. It works on vericose veins, but only temporarily. The minute I stop they come right back. It also itches so I’m chicken to use it on my eyelids. My sciatica it hasn’t helped at all. But maybe I haven’t used it long enough. It makes me smell horribly. My husband won’t touch me if I’ve been using it. 🤣
And I can’t say I blame him. It is gross! It seems to be helping colitis in my 17yo cat? I put it in his water. His diarrhea bouts gave gone from daily to maybe once a week. I’m also using DMSO with Chlorine Dioxide on a small suspected mast cell tumor on my dog. It’s still there but it has not grown in the past 15 months, in fact it’s slightly smaller.
Would you be able to tell me a safe prescription amt of DMSO and how to apply it for ocular floaters and improvement in vision? Thank you.

Thank you. If you get specifics on where to buy, obtain, or find an appropriate optholmologist, would you please post?
